What is a statement piece?

What is a statement piece?

Ever wondered what “statement” jewelry means?

Sometimes a piece is so unique or special that it is the first thing people notice about you. For example, a unique and unusual necklace worn with bare shoulders creates a visual impact that’s instantly registered by those around you. Likewise, a bright stone in a ring worn with a white power suit will prompt compliments.

In short, statement is the opposite of subtle. It is colorful, large or decidedly unique and it’s the most curated, tasteful and effortless way of staying in the spotlight.

Statement jewelry is all about visibility, about the ability to attract wandering looks. So it needs to create stark contrasts: bright and colorful gems or dark jewelry with a white t-shirt or dress.

Shape and Size

Sometimes a statement piece makes a statement because of size. Like this bold ring

Is there a meaning behind that jewelry piece? Are you wearing a new trend? The reasons - if any at all - are your own, of course. But the beauty of it is that statement jewelry gives you a primed audience if you ever choose to share them.

Size, Volume And… Quantity

Here as well, the guideline is clarity of intention. The default is to choose large, visually present pieces and wear them with flat or flowing outfits. Of course, size is a relative attribute, so what qualifies as large? For earrings, it’s anything larger than a couple of cm. For rings, it’s anything that covers a significant part of your finger. Broadly speaking, anything that is bigger than the norm in the category can be considered statement jewelry.

When it comes down to it, I say do your own thing. Wear what you want when you want. Everyday is a day for adornment and to feel special and unique. Make your own trends by flaunting your confidence!
